How do I apply for insurance?
We can enroll you today over the telephone or you can apply online directly yourself and benefit from the online discount.
I received a documentation/policy telling me that I am insured, when all I wanted was a quote
If a customer goes beyond a certain point in the application process we will incept a policy for them. This does not meant that they are obliged to proceed with the customer, we do this for our customer’s convenience and if they do not wish to proceed with the quote then they simply need to ignore it and the policy will lapse naturally after 14 days.
If I make a claim, how much will my premium go up and when?
It is not our policy to increase premium as a result of a claim
Is it safe to put my personal details online?
Yes. Whenever we ask you for personal information, we do so within a secure environment and all details sent between your PC and our web site are encrypted.
Can I get instant cover and policy documents – I’m travelling today?
No problem! As soon as your credit card details have been validated, we will confirm your cover on screen, and to the email address you have provided. You can also choose to get an SMS with cover details to your mobile. Provided you have your policy number, emergency number and claims number, you have all the basic information you need.
When does my cover begin?
If you are buying a single-trip policy, your cover begins instantly. If you are buying an annual policy, your can choose when your cover begins (up to 90 days in the future). If you have already booked a holiday, and have no other travel insurance arrangements in force, you should ensure your policy starts immediately, so you are covered for cancellation.
What happens if my flight is delayed beyond the insurance period?
If your flight is delayed on your return journey and you do not get back into the country until after your policy has expired, your cover will continue until your airline can get you home
Can I change my policy?
You can request various changes to your policy online by using our Self Service facility. If you move house, we will reissue your policy for your new address. If you need to add winter sports cover or want to increase the number of people insured, you can call us on 1890 130 037
How do I renew my annual multi trip policy?
We will remind you 4 weeks before your policy expires, and offer you the opportunity to buy another policy or alternatively a quick and simple we can automatically renew by CC. You will need your policy number, last name, date of birth, and credit card number to buy again.
What if I have a medical emergency abroad?
This depends on which of our covers you have purchased. You should refer to our Emergency & Claims information.
Do the limits under the policy apply per person or per policy?
Each of you is covered separately up to the limits shown in the policy. The policy limits apply in the same way as they would if you had each taken two separate policies. This is true for each person insured under the policy, although some benefits are restricted for children under 16 years of age – see our full policy wording for details.
Am I covered for holidays in Republic of Ireland?
Yes, provided you have bought an annual policy. You must spend at least two nights in accommodation you booked before your departure. So a weekend break involving two nights in a hotel would be covered, but a day out and overnight stop wouldn’t. If you have bought a single-trip policy you will not be covered for holidays in the Republic of Ireland. Whichever policy you buy, some benefits are not payable for holidays in the Republic of Ireland. See the Policy Wording for full details.
What am I not covered for?
We have highlighted what we believe are the most important exclusions in the FAQs and Policy Summary, and on the statements we ask you to confirm before you buy our cover. It is not possible for us to list everything you will not be covered for, and we strongly advise you to read the full Policy Wording. Under each section of cover you will find a list of exclusions on the right hand side of the page, and a further list of General Exclusions in Part IV towards the end of the policy wording. These sections must not be read in isolation, but within the context of the full policy wording. If you have any doubts about what is not covered, please contact us.
I have a medical condition, can I be covered?
Before you buy a policy, we ask you to confirm that you are:
- NOT receiving or on a waiting list for treatment in a hospital or nursing home
- Travelling against the advice of a medically qualified doctor travelling for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment
- Travelling after being given a terminal prognosis
If you can confirm these and the other statements we ask you to confirm, you can buy our cover online.
I am under 18 – can I buy your policy?
Unfortunately, no. Policyholders must be at least 18.
I am pregnant – will I be covered?
Yes, provided you are not due to give birth less than 14 weeks after the end of your trip. If your due date is at least 14 weeks after the end of your trip, and you give birth during your trip, your baby will automatically be covered by our policy. If you are due to give birth within 14 weeks of the date your trip ends you cannot be covered by our policy.
How many children can I insure under your policy?
You can insure up to 6 children, Children must be:
- The children of you and/or your partner, and under 18 (or under 23 if still in full-time education) on the day you buy your policy, and dependent on you or your partner even if they don’t live with you.
I have a child over 18 who still lives at home and is in full time education, can we cover him/her under our family policy?
Yes, provided he or she is under 23 years of age.
We have a ‘family’ policy, but our children live away from home during term time at college. Are they covered?
As long as your children or your partner’s children are not older than 18 years on the day you buy your policy (or under 23 years if still in full-time education) and dependent on you, they are covered – whether they live with you or not. But there are restrictions on their ability to travel without you or your partner.
What do you mean by the term Irish resident?
Someone who has been living in Ireland (not Northern Ireland) for at least 6 months prior to the date cover is applied for.
I live overseas. Can I buy your insurance?
Sorry, only Irish residents can buy our insurance.
I am going to live abroad and am not returning to Ireland. Can I buy your annual travel insurance?
Sorry, our policy does not cover single direction trips or Non-Irish residents. Trips must begin and end in Ireland and you must be resident here.
I am starting my journey from another country, but returning to Ireland after 28 days. Will your policy cover me?
Trips must begin and end in the Republic of Ireland.
How can I pay?
You may pay online using a valid credit or Debit card.
I’ve lost my travel insurance documents. How do I retrieve them?
In the event that you lose or misplace your policy documents, you can go online, enter your details and TRAVELINSURE.IE travel insurance Ireland will send you a copy of your documents by email
What do I do if my passport is lost or stolen abroad?
Contact your nearest Irish Embassy or consulate.
What documents do I need to take on holiday with me?
We advise you have your travel insurance policy number available in the event of a claim or emergency as well as all medical and claims emergency numbers should you need to contact TRAVELINSURE.IE Insurance Ireland.
How many times can I go away if I have an Annual Multi Trip policy?
There is no restriction on the number of times you go away during the period of this insurance on an Annual Multi Trip Insurance policy, however each trip should not exceed 45 days in total for Essential and 60 days in total for Extra. Wintersports trips are covered up to a maximum of 17 days in total in each period of insurance (so long as appropriate premiums have been paid to include cover for wintersports).
Can we all travel independently on an Annual Multi Trip Insurance policy?
Under a Family Annual Multi Trip policy, each adult is also insured to travel on their own; however children must always travel with at least one insured adult named on the travel insurance certificate.
I’ve left the Republic of Ireland and forgotten to get insurance. Can I still get cover with you?
No. Travel Insurance must be purchased prior to your departure from the Republic of Ireland.
What if I am travelling to more than one country?
Please insure you select the areas that cover all destinations within your journey
What is an excess?
The amount you have to pay towards the claim. In practice this is deducted from any settlement amount and is charged per person per claim.

Am I covered for cancellation?
Your policy schedule will confirm if you have this travel insurance cover and from when it is operative. Please refer to the travel insurance policy booklet
Am I covered to work or study in Europe?
You are covered to study. You are not covered for manual work in connection with a business, trade or profession, this includes working with children. Nor are you covered for work that involves the use of machinery or work that is not at ground level. Fruit picking and bar work are considered covered.
Is terrorism covered?
Claims relating to Emergency Medical Expenses and Personal Accident are covered. All other claims relating to terrorism are excluded as outlined in General Exclusions.
Am I covered for foreseen events (e.g. planned strike action or forecasted weather)?
No, insurance exists to cover fortuitous events only. If you purchase a policy knowing of a reason to claim you will not be covered.

I have a European Health Insurance Card. Do I still need travel insurance?
It is not compulsory for someone to have travel insurance but the EHIC does not cover you in the event of cancellation, curtailment or baggage or other benefits derived from taking out a travel insurance policy.
I’ve seen details for EHIC cards for European travel, what cover does that provide?
As a Republic of Ireland resident, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which replaced the E111 form, entitles you to free or reduced cost, state-provided medical treatment should you have an accident or become ill while travelling within the European Economic Area (EEA). However, you should be aware that only state-provided emergency treatment is covered, it does not generally cover private treatment.
Is dental treatment covered?
Yes but emergency dental work only.
Can I change my cover once I’ve taken out a policy?
If you’ve taken out an annual policy with us and mid-term realise that you now need to add further cover for example, ski- cover, or Worldwide USA cover, you can call us on 1890 130 037 to upgrade your cover.
What is classed as a “hazardous activity”?
We’ve put together a table which includes those activities that are covered, those that are covered if they are professionally organised and supervised and a list of activities that are not covered. If the activity you are doing is not on the list, please call us on 1890 130 037 and we will advise you if it’s covered
I’ve bought annual cover – does this include my ski trip?
We can provide cover for ski-ing along with your annual trip policy, or as a ski specific single trip policy. In fact, when you select our Winter Sports upgrade, it will cover you for any of the following winter sports; ski-ing, snowboarding, sleigh riding as a passenger as part of an organised trip. Please ensure that when you get a quote from us that you select the Winter Sports upgrade if you want it included. For more information please see Winter Sports
I travel quite frequently with my work, am I covered on my policy for this?
Business travel insurance is an optional upgrade and covers you, your business equipment, your business money and any samples you may need for attending a meeting. If you are travelling on business and want to make sure that your laptop, for example, is covered while you are away, then you would need business cover. My personal belongings are covered away from home by my home insurance policy. Do I need baggage cover?
The choice of taking out baggage cover is up to you and will depend on what you are taking on holiday with you. For example, if your household insurance policy covers a specific valuable item(s) outside of your home (under the “Personal belongings” section) then you may not need to cover these items again on your travel insurance policy. However, if you do not have cover for specific items away from home, or do want to cover clothing that you are taking with you then this option will cover the cost of replacing your personal baggage if it is lost, stolen or damaged, up to €3,000 on Premier cover / €1500 on Club cover €750 on Economy. Please note that there is a single article limit on the policy which is €250 with Premier cover / €450 with standard cover and €130 on Economy. In addition there is a valuables limit of €450 Premier or €250 Club and €150 on valuables
I’ve got Family Cover – can my partner and I travel independently?
Yes, you and your partner may travel independently on family cover. However, please be aware that your children are only covered when travelling with an insured adult/parent under this policy.
What should I do if I have a medical emergency while I’m away?
We operate an Emergency Assistance Service, so if you have a medical emergency, you should call the helpline 01 258 3792. Your call will be answered by an experienced assistance co-ordinator who will help you with your problem. Please quote your travel policy number when you call.
If you require medical assistance we will ensure that where appropriate:
- Hospitals or clinics will be contacted and any necessary fees guaranteed
- Doctors and hospitals abroad will be contacted in their own language, where necessary
- Medical advisers are consulted at an early stage on the possibility of arranging for the sick or injured person to be returned home and the best method of transportation to be adopted. Specially equipped air ambulances are available for critical cases. Whenever necessary the patient will be escorted by a medical attendant. Assistance will be provided upon arrival in the Ireland where medically necessary.
How do I make a claim?
You must contact us before incurring any medical expenses over €500. For emergency medical expenses under €500 pay your costs directly and contact the claims line 01 258 3792 within 14 days of returning home from your trip.
For all claims requiring medical assistance of that are over €500, please contact us on 01 258 3791 The notification must be made within 31 days or as soon as possible thereafter following any bodily injury, illness, disease, incident, event, redundancy or the discovery of any loss, theft or damage which may give rise to a claim under this policy.
How do I cancel my policy after I’ve paid?
If this insurance is not suitable, please telephone or write to us within 14 days of receipt of your policy documents. We will cancel the policy and refund your premium in full provided that you have not already taken your trip or made a claim. We cannot refund your premium after this date.
